Students start off the year with learning the primary and secondary colors. We work with several activities. We started with the book, Mouse Paint by Elllen Stoll Walsh. Upon reading the book, we mixed our puddles of paint in a ziploc baggie. Then we moved into puddles of paint on paper and did some marble painting, which lead to positive and negative space with black paper. I saw this on Artsonia, but have adapted it to fit our lesson. Students practice tracing, cutting and gluing. You can find the rest in my mouse paint lesson.
