OP Art/Complimentary Colors by Third Grade
Students started out with the book, Hello Red Fox by Eric Carle. We talk about how Eric Carle shared with his pictures how our eyes take in one color and export the opposite color on the color wheel(complimentary color). Then we looked at Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely and some of the Op Art work. Students then chose a stencil shape or another object to trace. Once they traced their object, students made lines coming out from the center of the paper to the edge of their papers. Permanent markers in opposite(complimentary) colors were used to finish their work. Some student examples are below.
