Bulging Woven Frog Eyes by Third Grade
The third grade students traced a butter dish to create two circles on cardboard from cereal boxes. Students then used a ruler and a method of measuring to find the center of their circles. Once the center was found, students created 13 lines coming from the center to the edge of their circle. Yarn was then strung like spokes to the notches students cut. Other colors of yarn were used to weave in a circle until students could no longer weave. Any extra space on the carboard weaving, students used a marker to color and decorate. We decided to use these for our bulging frog eyes. Students used a simple method of creating a frog body of the #2 for the legs, an oval for the body. After the body was drawn, students used chalk to achieve the look of dark, medium and light green. This was to show shadow, highlights and form. Students glued their woven eyes onto the frog to complete their work. Student work can be seen below.
