Buffalo/Bison by Third Grade
We looked at the difference between buffalo and bison. We looked at each one's features and what makes them different from each other. We talked about how they are easily confused. Students then looked at pictures of buffalo and bison and drew however many they wanted onto a black piece of paper with a white colored pencil. Students then used sponges and paint to create the texture for fur on their buffalo/bison. Next we talked about painting a place for their buffalo/bison. Our goal was not to use just one color, but how to blend and mix colors to create depth and texture to our paintings. Students finished their pieces by cutting out and gluing their buffalo/bison to their paintings. Below are some student examples.
